Play Play Play !!!!

Hi there my lovelies

Tracy here with today's Mixed Media Monday.....

Sometimes you just want to play, to start throwing down colours with no plan and no intention, to let the process take you where it wants to !!!

It's not very often that I use yellow on a page but I think that all the rubbish weather we have been having lately has forced me to think of another way to get a little sunshine in my life. I love the brightness and intensity it gives to this page and the fun vibe radiating from it.

For this journal page I didn't even think about the colours I was adding, I decided to just grab them out of the basket and started smearing them on with my fingers, rubbing the paint into the paper,  as well as getting my brushes out to paint circles and twirls and random marks.

It's so much fun to use limited supplies and to pick up what's around you to use on your page..... I had some book pages on my desk and a roll of washi tape so I threw those into the mix too, adding them to my page.

I had a great time creating this page. Try it for yourself.....just let go, use what's to hand and create intuitively.... You may be surprised at what you can create when you truly allow yourself to be free.

Have a fabulous day

Today,Tomorrow, Always

Hi everybody! Welcome to our Mixed Media Wednesday!
It's Lula here and I am going to share a set of 3 ATCs with you today.
,,Dziƛ, jutro, zawsze" means ,,Today, tomorrow, always" in Polish.

I started with crumbling up some tissue paper, undo it and glue it to the cardboard.  For each ATC I added tissue on one side, let it dry and then trimmed it around the edges.

Then I gave them a coat of gesso.

Next step was stamping the background with Archival Ink.

I added some modeling paste and microspheres using my butterfly stencil.

Then it was time for inking and misting.
I used Dylusions Ink - Polished Jade and Lindy's Stamp Gang- Whale Watch Blue.

The final touch was rubbing some Inka Gold onto the surface, some outlining and adding the lettering.

Have a wonderful, creative day!

Mini canvas Kate Crane style

Well hello there!
I recently signed up for Kate Crane's online art journaling classes, called
Art Journal Soup 1&2.
Here's a mini canvas I made from one of the lessons:

The canvas is 10 x 10 cm (about 4"x4").

I've used Dina Wakley's paints, black gesso, Stabilo All pencil and black and white markers.
I've also used a Dylusions stencil in the background. The house and fence are hand drawn, and the red dots on the house are made with a painted piece of Lego.

Thanks for stopping by Mixed Media Mojo!

Embossing Paste Done Two Ways

A couple weeks ago I had the honor of taking a class with Frank Garcia from Prima Flowers.  It was so fun and I came away with the most beautiful project which was in a frame.  All ready to be hung on the wall.

I am going to talk about a couple of the different techniques that we did.  Of course, I did not take notes so I am doing this from what I remember and I am sure I forgot some things but I did get a nice result.

Here is a picture of the mats in the project.

You first started by putting patterned paper on top of your chipboard.  After the patterned paper was adhered to the chipboard, I inked the edges of the paper

The outer mat was done by spreading embossing paste on your chipboard and then you stamped on it with a rubber stamp.  I don't think it looked like this in class.  You could see more of the stamped image in the paste.

On the inside mat, you used a stencil and put embossing paste through the stencil.

Four different inks were used to achieve the beautiful color.  My pictures do not do it justice at all.

Using an ink blending tool you kept adding layers of color.  The orange color is what brings the colors all together.  I will only show you a picture of one of them.  I then put a coat of gel medium over the top to set the colors.  We used Tim Holtz Rock Candy in the class but I didn't have any so I improvised.  It was also used in two different ways which I don't remember.

After you are happy with the color, you then use a gold spray to add gold to the pieces.  I just laid the pieces down and misted in the air and let the gold fall down on the pieces.  I did this twice.

I hope you can see the gold glisten on the two pieces.  This was a fun technique to try.  I did not have time to make a project yet.  I think it could be a beautiful fall card.

My note to myself is that next time I need to write down the steps and how we used product.  I did come up with a similar look to our project in our class.

I love taking classes and learning new techniques and trying new products.  Prima has a wonderful new sprays but I haven't been able to purchase any yet.

Watercolour effects in Art Journaling

  •
I love working in watercolour, it is so unpredictable and random no 2 pieces will ever be the same.
The effect is created using watercolour pigment ( Dr PH Martin Hydrus )  rubber stamps and good quality watercolour paper. I have worked on rough and smooth papers to show how the paper effects the over all finish.
  • Flood you paper with clean water

  • Using a wash brush add a small amount of diluted pigment to the wet paper and watch the magic begin!

rough 140 lb watercolour paper

addition of another colour wash

smooth 90lb watercolour paper

  • Apply a highly pigmented wash of colour onto your Stamp

  •  Stamp onto your background ( Background must be dry before you stamp )

smooth paper

rough paper
  • Spritz the imagery to create a bleed in the pigment .

  • Here are a few other samples

Now it is up to you. The technique will take practice, learning how watercolours behave is key, but I think the effect is well worth the effort.
Many thanks  Linda

Collaged, Stamped and Objects found!

I love combining fabric and paper in my work specifically book pages. This collage uses book papers that have been treated with Ice Resin. Once treated and dried the pages become opaque allowing you to create layers without hiding what is underneath.
I find it useful to use Bond a web to attach the fabric collage to the background prior to stitching
Using bond a web to secure back ground

Ice resin Paper

"My found" spectacles and the stamped crow image finish the piece.

Many thanks  Linda
