Napkin altered holder- easy Mixed Media way with Irit

Hello my dear crafty friends!

Today I am going to share an easy project , that maybe called Mixed Media and maybe not. Anyway as I used paper, paint, mediums and water colors it is a Mixed Media after all and usufull one too. 

This is my alteration of Canvas Corps shadow box that was brown and not fit to my kitchen/rooms. So as I was in need of napkin holder and the size was just perfect, I decided to alter it to this " light vintage" piece using DIY paints and embossed paper. To make it durable I added a thick layer of clear resin over the paper.

Materials Used

1. Shadow box 8*8'' Stained wood-Canvas Corps
2. DIY Viridian paint- Tattered Angels
3. DIY Ivory paint- Tattered Angels
4.Embossed large floral ivory paper-Canvas Corps
5. Easy cast ETI resin
6. Water colors- Faber Castell DMC Gelatos
7. Crackle medium- DecoArt

Step by step instructions:

Step 1

Paint the shadow box with Viridian color and let it dry

Step 2

Cover the painted box with crackle medium and let it dry

Step 3

Paint over the dry crackle with Ivory paint. Try not to repeat over the already painted area if you want to get good crackles

Step 4

Cut a piece of ivory embossed floral paper to the size that cover the inside of the box. Glue it into the box. Water color the embossed florals with your colors of choice.

Step 5

Cover the colored box with a thick layer of ETI Clear cast resin and let it dry for at least 24 hours. Distress the edges of your painted box as much as you want to get this " old" look

Step 6

Put your favorite napkins inside and enjoy!

Springtime fun

Hey there!  Maria here with a springtime layout that goes with this month's challenge of SPRINGTIME and the twist is to use Watercolors!

The background is using Dylusions Sprays with water (sort of watercoloring), lots of Unity Stamps in there as well.  The flowers are from Unity Stamp Co and created with Washi Tape.  

I take a square piece of cardstock in whatever size I want.  Cover it with different washi tapes and tuck the pieces around the back.  Here is an example of what it looks like:

All neatly tucked which creates a cool new paper!

Once I have this piece I would just stamp the image I want, in this case the tulips on the washi tape paper and then just cut them out.

Dreams

Hi everyone! Lucyna here. Today I want to share with you a canvas I have recently made.
As I am looking for a new place to live, this piece is really reflecting  my dreams now.

To start with I used small wooden pieces which you can find attached to the canvas.

This is not my idea. I have seen it at Maremi's small art who I admire very much.

I decided to work on the back of the canvas to achieve an interesting,, frame".

I also added some twine and fastened all with lots of gel medium. 

When everything was dry I gessoed the whole piece and added some modeling paste to achieve more textured background.

There aren't many embellishments, just a wooden house, a wooden heart and a metal key. Oh, nearly forgot about my fav Prima flower which I have altered with micro beads and mists.

I used Lindy's Stamp Gang mists to spray my whole piece. 

The final touch was to add some stamping with dark brown ink.

Pale Blue Dot Art Journal Page

Hello everyone, Deb here today to share an art journal page that I made with you.  I just purchased some of the new Ranger Ink Tim Holtz Distress crayons and decided my art journal would be the perfect place to test them out.

I started out by colouring an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper with various colours of Distress inks in shades of blue, green and a touch of yellow.   I smooshed the colours onto the paper randomly and then added more ink using a blending tool where I felt it was needed.

Some background stamping came next using Tim Holtz's Ledger Script and Documented stamps and then I randomly added some texture paste through Tim Holtz's Flourish and Tracks layering stencil and a star stencil I had in my stash.

After the texture paste had dried, I covered the page with some clear gesso.  I knew from watching some demo videos about the Distress crayons that they blended better on a primed surface so decided to 'seal' the page with clear gesso before starting to colour with the crayons.  I then cut the paper in half to fit in my art journal (4 1/2" by 8 1/2") and coloured the embossed areas and the page edges with Distress crayon in the same colours as I had used on the background.

The Distress crayons are very creamy and blend together beautifully and the best part is that even though they are water reactive, they will not bleed or blend when wet unless you physically move the pigments with your finger, brush or blending tool.  No more having to worry about the colours bleeding or getting muddy if you accidentally spritz some water on your pages or when you add your sprays!

I then adhered the background pages into my art journal and while they were drying started to work on my embellishments.  I die cut the Sizzix Globe die from some cardstock coloured with various sprays in my stash (Prima Color Bloom and Lindy's Stamp Gang) and backed the globe die with a circle cut from watercolour paper that I'd applied a flat blue watercolour paint wash to.

I die cut the word 'cherish' using Tim Holtz's Handwritten Love die and then used the negative die cut as a stencil to stencil the word onto a piece of cardstock.  I added some Glossy Accents overtop of the stenciled word, coloured the background with Distress ink and fussy cut the sentiment.

I coloured another piece of cardstock with some Old Paper Distress stain and when dry stamped the words 'pale blue dot' onto it using an alphabet stamp set from Michaels called Whimsy Double and clear embossed the words.

I fussy cut each word individually and added some blue glitter glue over top of the embossed word 'blue'.  All of the elements were then mounted onto some dimensional foam tape and adhered onto the background in my art journal.

As a finishing touch, I randomly scattered some gold confetti stars from my stash here and there on the pages.

Life's An Advenure

Hello, I hope everyone is well, and finding lots of happy time to craft!

Today I thought would share how I made my Spring Tree for the Springtime challenge with a twist of watercolours.

I stamped the lovely "Life's an Adventure" using black Archical ink (it is waterproof) onto watercolour paper and used Aqua Marker pens to colour her. I did not use the pens directly onto the paper, instead I dabbed a little into my palette and added a teeny bit of water. I then added some pink flowersoft to accentuate her hair band.

I die cut a lot of small flowers, and then used a coloured pencil to edge them in a slightly darker shade. I used Liquid Pearls in Buttercup to make the centre of the flower. I bent the flowers up a little to try and make them look more realistic and not so flat.

I then Moulded green plasticine into a small hill shape, and scratched it up to look like grass.

When you have decided the size you would like your tree to be cut a length of 2mm thick brown wire to make the trunk and firmly place it in the centre of the hill.

Cut shorter lengths of 1mm thick brown wire and very tightly twist it around the trunk where you would like your branches to be.

Glue the flowers onto the branches, I used pva glue. I glued my swing girl very carefully onto the tree. Where she seems to be very happy!

Spring Watercolour

Good morning everyone, Hazel here to share a watercolour with you. I used watercolour paper and PaperArtsy stamps.

I started by painting the background with watercolours.

I stamped some background flowers by colouring the stamps with Pitt pens and then I stamped the main flowers and butterfly with Versamark ink and heat embossed them with white powder.

The images were coloured with Inktense pencils and a water brush, then I went round the outlines of the embossed images with a fine black marker pen.

I matted the page onto black card.

Spring wreath

Hi All
Mayoori here, sharing my Spring wreath.

1.I started with a dollar store thermocol wreath and covered it with dry wall tape. ( can also use white tissue paper- just that dry wall tape is easier.)
2. Then covered the whole wreath with white gesso .
3 then added some thin strips of cheese cloth like ribbon.
4. added lots of flowers to make a thick cluster and then gave a thick coat of gesso.
5 Sencil the remaining part with crackle paste. and added some purple , blue and red shimmer paint , watering them so that they spread around.
6 finally added some shimmer and shimmer balls and butterflies.
7 the flowers are all handmade.
