Mixed Media Tag and another Guest!

Niki (Pawsitively Creative) up on the blog today with an exciting reveal of another guest  designer and also a mixed media tag I made. Sit back, grab a cuppa, and enjoy!

With the new year brings new beginnings and new art supplies! "Santa" was very good to me and I wanted to partake in new art techniques. This tag involves a technique that is new to me-using stamped tissue paper. The tissue paper adds instant texture and is easy to do! I have a full tutorial on my blog LINK if you would like to know more. :)

Now for the bonus exciting part! We wanted to share another guest designers art piece. This wonderful piece was made by Keeley, you can see her blog HERE. She was our November winner but was overrun during the holidays and only recently able to start crafting again (can we get a whoot whoot!). Her NEW is New Traditions and she used this months twist: 15. The 15 is near the small pink button in the lower left hand corner. Awesome right?!

Mixed Media Canvas New January 2015

Kim here today and as promised I have the full reveal for the mixed media canvas I made to celebrate the New Year! Our theme this month is New with the added twist of 15! We can't wait to see what you create, so don't forget to come back and share with us!

I made this project and part of what is new besides celebrating the New Year is the size. While it is only 11 inches by 14 inches, it is much bigger than I usually work with. It was a bit intimidating but fun too!

I wanted to create a kind of reminder board for myself. Sometimes when I suffer a lack of mojo, I need a quick memory jog of things I wanted to try.

I covered a piece of board from a box of crackers with some book pages, then painted over the pages with Distress Paint to lighten up the text a bit. Once dry I stamped an assortment of words. The diecut gears are embossed with Distress Embossing Powder in Tea Dye and a sprinkle of Verdigris.

I covered the background with various Distress Paints and Dylusions Ink Sprays. The is some stamping. Also I used some stencils with texture paste. I really like how the spray ink soaks into the embossing paste.

The mesh is a piece of drywall mesh webbing tape. The clock graphic is a free image I found at Create with TLC. The word and letter stamps are Hero Arts.

Meet Becca - Our January Guest Designer!

Here is a little something about Becca and what she created for this month's challenge:

"For the "15" inspiration, I went looking for a photo of myself when I was 15. I couldn't find the one I was thinking of, but while I was digging, I came across my school yearbook from 15 years ago in 2000. It wasn't hardcover, and was made of neon papers that had gotten damaged in a flood. The colors all faded and ran together and created this wicked cool tie-dye effect. Reading through the pages and signatures was definitely a trip down memory lane. My favorite little note was "You're definitely cooky".  And for the NEW: It's the first time I ever cracked open the STAMPlorations Trendy Leaves set. Brand spankin' new!"

Pet Christmas Decorations

Hello all! Niki here (aka Pawsitively Creative) on the blog today and as some of you may know I am a vet tech that loves her furry family members. I make this dog biscuit wreath ornament for them every year, so I thought I would share my process.

First, get your supplies ready.

 Using old cardboard boxes cut out a round wreath shape. The size of the wreath depends on the size of your treats (cat treats work as well). I like to use wired ribbon because it holds the treats better. Cut a very long piece of ribbon (more than you think you will need.) 

Grab your glue gun and attach your ribbon at an angle to the back of your cardboard. 

Next-wrap your ribbon around your wreath and insert treats at every new wrap. Does that make sense?

Continue wrapping and inserting treats until your entire wreath is done. The last wrap will be the top of the wreath so make sure your ribbon is long enough to reach the back of the wreath. We don't want the end to show on the front. Use your glue gun to secure the edge. You can stop here, or to add an elegent touch, use an embellishment or a holiday pick to attach to the front top. I used 2 gold leaves and some gold balls. 

This is an easy way to include your pets in your holiday festivities. TIP-some animals have allergies to certain foods so remember to get hypoallergenic treats if needed. TIP-make sure these wreaths are out of reach of pets! We wouldn't want them to eat the ribbon or cardboard!!

Holiday Ornament How To

Barb here - telling you how I made this ornament.  There are many ideas all over the net on how to decorate the glass bulbs you can buy at the craft stores.  This ornament is one I did this year.

This one of the flatter ornaments so the front surface is a good one to do some artwork on.

I first primed the glass with Gesso.  I had bought some clear Gesso and wanted to try that.  Here is what it looks like on the front of the ornament.

Not really that clear.  Hmmmm - false advertising.  I used regular Gesso on a page of a book and then stamped my snowman (Paper Smooches).

I colored the snowman with my Big Brush Pens from Faber Castell and carefully cut him out.  I used gel medium to put him on the front of my ornament.

Oops and once again I forgot to take pictures of what I did so get your imagination working here to see what I am talking about.  I used embossing paste and made a snowbank for my snowman to sit in.  I then used my distress paints and colored the sky.  After it was dry, I used a new stencil and made those random dots with more embossing paste.  I added some snowflake stickers I had.  I brushed the snowman and snowbank with a glitter and glass bead gel from Faber Castell.  I used more normal gel medium over the top of the sky to set the color and the stickers.

I decided I wanted to fill the bulb with some sparkly gift bag shreds.

Lucky me - I found 3 bags of these shreds in my supplies so guess I need to get busy and make some more ornaments.
